GROW: Faith, Family, Fun

Wednesday Nights Are For Families
South Middle School (6:30PM)

At Westwind, we believe that the primary responsibility for training children lies with parents.  It is with this value in mind that we began a Wednesday family ministry called, “GROW.”  The mission of GROW is to support parents in the training of their children by providing classes for children that are fun, safe and biblically sound, as well as providing an environment for parents to be equipped and empowered as they lead their families.  GROW will provide a family worship experience for families to explore and grasp God’s story together.  It will also provide parents with the resources to teach their children throughout the week outside of Wednesday night and Sunday morning.

Got Questions?

What does an average night look like?An average night at GROW will be broken up into two parts.  The first half of the evening children will be with their small groups and teachers.  This is when the weekly lesson will be taught and kids will have the opportunity to talk in groups about how it applies to their lives.  During this time parents, who are not part of the teaching team, will be in their own equipping class.  They will also have a teaching and a small group time where they will get the opportunity to connect with other parents.

The second half of the night will be a time of Family Celebration.  This is when parents and children come together to experience an interactive time of teaching.  Each Wednesday a different interactive way of teaching will be used, from skits to puppets, to bring families together to worship as one unit.

Can I drop my kids off and then go do my own thing? No, this is not a drop-and-go ministry.  One of the main points to GROW is that it is a family centered ministry.  We want this to be more than just a place for kids to go and hang out.  We want parents to be actively involved in their child’s relationship with God.  Parents play a huge role in helping their children learn more about God and growing in relationship with Him.  This is why we have included an element called “GROW Parents.”

What is GROW Parents? GROW Parents is a class for parents to equip and empower them to raise their children to know and love God.  It is an opportunity for parents to come together to learn, share struggles and successes, and build community together.

What can I do to help? GROW needs volunteers in order to work.  There are several different ways you can help.  You can be a teacher or assistant in a children’s small group, help with story telling, be an actor, a musician, a singer, or help with sound and video tech.

What about my younger kids? GROW Beginnings has childcare for all children ages 0-3.

What about middle school students? The middle school ministry (5th-8th grade) meets weekly at Waukee South Middle School during the Grow program hours.

How much does it cost to send my kid to GROW? It is $25 per child per year, up to 2 children, ages 4 – grade 5 (includes GROW shirt) It is $65 per family per year, up to 4 children (includes GROW shirt for kids)
