I’ve heard it said that the best things in life are worth fighting for. Our marriages are worth fighting for. Meaningful relationships with our children are worth fighting for. Our love for God over this world – a love for smart phones, nice yards, and fat retirements – that’s worth fighting for with all our hearts. Yet, in one of the most endearing letters of the New Testament, Paul communicates to the Philippians that there is something else worth fighting for – our unity. Paul wants us to stand, “… firm in one spirit, with one mind, working side by side for the faith that comes from the gospel (1:27).” In addition to fighting for unity, we will see what it looks likes to live with joy, be courageous for the gospel, give generously, live without anxiety and much, much more. I can’t wait for our church to mine the riches of this inspiring letter and reap the rewards that comes from obedience to our great God.
