Why Study Acts

Why Study Acts

Westwind’s Teaching Pastor, Paul Sabino, shares why the book of Acts is so important to modern Christians today. The Acts series is entitled, WITNESS.

Jesus had risen.  The grave could not hold Him.  With death now conquered, the door of heaven had been flung wide open.  Now, after many appearances to His disciples, Jesus draws them near one last time on the Mount of Olives.  And then from His lips come these His final words:  “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” And with that, He ascended to heaven before their eyes.  With Jesus gone, they were ordered back into Jerusalem, a city full of men who had nailed Jesus to the cross.  And to do what?  To witness.  They had been witnesses of God.  Now they were to be witnesses for God.  But now they would be filled with God’s power.  And not only in Jerusalem, but then thrust out into a foreign world that desperately needed hope.  And so we extend the words of Jesus to you.  We welcome you into a study of the book of Acts to witness the power of God.  And we invite you into the next chapter of God’s journey for Westwind to be Spirit-empowered witnesses to our friends, families, neighbors, co-workers, and literally to the ends of the earth.

Messages on Acts begin Sunday, April 29 at our Celebration Service. We encourage you to read through the book of Acts on your own in preparation for our Witness series.
