I’m Here For The Sick

In today’s reading we get to see Jesus doing what he does best, relating to the lost, and scolding those that would say they are of God, but behave much differently. Imagine sitting around a party with a bunch of unspiritual people and seeing Jesus right in the mix. There he is talking, maybe laughing, and all the while making his presence known to the people around him. It’s not that he was walking around shouting, “I’m the Son of God!” It was in his actions. Jesus was a party changer. Whenever he went the environment changed.

I remember being a Student Ministry Pastor and students would say, “well, Jesus went to parties!” They would say this in attempt to get their parents to let them attend a local student party. But Jesus didn’t go to parties to be social, he went to change the environment. We need to remember that when we are in a worldly situation, we are to be like Jesus and follow him in changing the environment around us.

I remember talking to my dad once about his job as a assemblyman for International Harvester. I could only imagine some of the foul language and commentaries that would be said while at work, yet my dad never used foul language, and had a spirit of encouragement in everything he said. When I asked my dad how he stood up to it, he just said, “I knew I had to if I was going to be a light.” My dad knew that people were watching him. We, too, need to live life in ungodly situations like that.

So, no matter what environment you are in today, are you doing your part by living like Christ to change it?
