God’s words are kind of like cough drops…

I once heard John Piper liken God’s word to a cough drop.  He said he read his Bible in the morning and looked for some life giving truth that, like a cough drop, he could put under his tongue and receive help from throughout his whole day.  Just before Josiah and Elley walked out the door for the bus ride, I read to them Psalm 30 from today’s assigned passages.  Verse 10 was like a cough drop: “LORD, listen and be gracious to me; LORD, be my helper.”  What a simple cry for help coming from a desperate heart.  Fearful of the unknown?  Lord, be my Helper?  Behind in work because of missing school?  Lord, be gracious to me?  May you find precious truths in God’s word daily that, like a cough drop, bring healing and strength to both your souls and others.
