2.19.12 Discussion Guide

This discussion guide’s passage is Philippians 1:27-2:4. It focuses on unity and our role in bringing unity to our worshipping community. As a group focus on your group specifically, and Westwind church in general, as you look at how unity impacts the church.

Opening Up

  • What group of people (team, co-workers, family, etc.) have you been the closet with? What circumstances created that closeness?
  • Do you think the church does a good job fostering close relationships among its people? Why or why not?

Digging In

  • Read Philippians 1:27-30. What do you think of when you hear the phrase “Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ”?
  • Brandon discussed in his message how this is more of a corporate outlook, how does this change the way we should look at this challenge, or add to what we already think about it?
  • What opposition does the modern church face from outsides that threatens our unity?
  • What does being of “one spirit” and “one mind” mean to you?
  • How do you deal with suffering, and how does Paul’s view of suffering impact how you see it?
  • What is an area of “suffering” in your life that you would like to have people in your worshipping community help you with?
  • Read Philippians 2:1-4. Which of these verses touches home with you? Which verse would you see as a challenge?
  • What is an area of your life where you need to humble yourself and become more of a “slave” like the Apostle Paul?

Making It Yours

  • Do you see true unity as something that is possible in this connection group and at Westwind? Why or why not?
  • What type of things with yourself stop you from being unified with other believers?
  • How can we as a CG and a church foster a culture of unity?
