Wow, it’s hard to condense all the amazing intricacies of God’s hand in our lives and the lives of those we love! I am compelled to share this story because it truly captures how God is constantly at work in a multitude of ways and that He can, and does use us in His story.

Just like each one of us, my cousin has had her share of struggles in this life – the most recent one being a surgery with complications where she almost died twice, and continues to recover from. She came to visit my sister and I a couple of weekends ago – we haven’t had as much contact over the last several years as we would have all liked. We had a wonderful time catching up on each other’s lives and my sister and I shared the details of how our Lord has impacted and changed our lives over these many years.

I know, you’re thinking, ‘nice story but what does that have to do with Westwind or me?’ Well, that Sunday I came to church and in the Forecast was the Christmas Wish/Prayer List. Immediately I knew that one of the people that I was going to put down on my list was my cousin. That afternoon I called her and told her about the card and asked what I could specifically pray for her and her family. She shared that she wanted peace and serenity and prayer for her two sons. I assured her that I would be praying and then prayed with her on the phone before we hung up. Another question on the card was, “how can you meet that persons needs?” I wasn’t sure about that because she doesn’t live around here. So I asked God to reveal to me how I could meet a need of hers.

Monday morning God did what He does best – He welcomed her into His family of believers. My cousin got up and went into my sister’s room and told her that she had prayed that morning asked God to forgive her of her sins and asked Him to come into her heart! Needless to say I was overwhelmed with joy.

But there’s more… I have had some furniture that I’ve been trying to sell for quite some time and haven’t had any luck. That same weekend on Saturday as I glanced at it sitting in my garage, I whispered a quick prayer and asked God to send someone to me that really needed that furniture and I would just give it to them. Well, that Monday my cousin was in my garage and saw the furniture (not knowing that I had prayed that prayer two days before) and said she would love to buy it from me. God had just brought to me a person who needed that furniture and had also revealed to me how I could meet my cousin’s needs!

Why does it always surprise us when God reveals Himself and what He is doing so clearly?! I had the amazing privilege of seeing the pieces of this God-story come together and it humbled me beyond words. He doesn’t ask us to do the whole job, He doesn’t expect us to be perfect, He simply desires to use us to bring glory to His name and to draw others to Him.
